Japan Lacrosse Association - U-20 Western All-Stars

Similar to Japan's Eastern All-Star team, Japan's Western All-Star crew includes many players who are hoping to use the Warburg Pincus Hawai'i Lacrosse Invitational as a springboard. Several players plan on using this tournament to launch them onto the Japanese National team that will take on the world in the 2001 World Cup in England. Coach Kumiko Tanaka will be looking to three standouts to help Japan makes its mark in Hawai'i: Attacker Midori Nagahashi, Defender Yukiko Tahara and Goalie Tomomi Sakata. However, no matter how the win/loss column reads at the end of the event, the Japanese All-Stars will undoubtedly gain fantastic experience that will help them move Japan closer to the top in next year's World Cup.

Japan Lacrosse Association - U-20 Eastern All-Stars

Wondering from where the inspiration came for adding a women's division to the tournament this year? Well, a great deal of the inspiration came from the Japanese Lacrosse Association (JLA). For the past three years, JLA has leaned hard on the Hawai'i Lacrosse Club to add a women's division to the fun. The Hawai'i tournament provides JLA with a rare opportunity to match its top players up against great players from the U.S. and Canada. With Japan having twice as many women's players as men's players, JLA could not wait to have its female athletes take advantage of Hawai'i's relatively close battlefields. The time has finally come, and JLA & its U-20 All-Stars are fired up! Much like the men's teams that JLA has brought to Hawai'i the last five years, the Eastern All-Stars will be fast and very disciplined. That just may be enough to enable them to take the championship trophy back to the House of the Rising Sun.

Hawai'i Lacrosse Club

The Aloha State has long been known for its beautiful beaches, endless summers, massive waves and, of course, the Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational. With years of male representation under their belt, Hawaii lacrosse is proud to present the first ever Hawaii women's team. The team is composed primarily of UH students escaping the mainland in search of sun, surf and studies, some oldies but goodies who happened to pack their sticks in hopes that some day they would be able to once again grace the green playing fields, and a few rookies to keep everyone a little honest and recharge them with a renewed sense of spirit. While this team is newly formed & under construction, they are enthusiastic & eager to represent the Islands of Hawaii.
